Gaan de avo's de Kilimanjaro beklimmen?

Persoonlijk denk ik het van niet omdat dat een meerdaagse tocht is en de CP's dan erg voorspelbaar zijn

En dan maar hopen dat de top niet in de wolken zit ..., helaas is dat vaak wel het geval

Beklimming van de Kilimandjaro duurt ca 4 dagen vv. Het is hoogst onwaarschijnlijk dat dit avontuur op het programma staat. In de namiddag is de aanblik van de top het mooist (geen bewolking, maar niet altijd)

Ik denk ook niet dat ze de berg helemaal gaan beklimmen, maar misschien een tussenetappe.
Ik ben er niet meer, maar heb nog wel een mooi plaatje, voor het geval dat...

CP gevonden: Marangu!!

The Kilimanjaro

This mountain is reacheable for good excursionists in a normal welth condition, with an adequate equipment and accompanied by a professional guide, differently from what happens with the most part of the mountains in the world which reach those heights.
The Kilimanjaro is formed by two main peaks: the Kibo which is the flat dome in the middle of it and the Mawenzi which is constituted by numerous irregular peaks on the east side.
The Kibo peak turns itself towards inside to form a crater, which is not visible from the base.
Even if Kilimanjaro is three degrees South of the equator Kibo and Mawenzi are both covered by plenty of snow and ice.
The highest part of Kilimanjaro is Uhuru peak.
Slightly lower you can find Gillman's Point which together with Uhuru is the principal target of each excursionist.
On the other hand Mawenzi peaks are to be reached by very experienced excursionists.

The way to Marangu

First stop. Moving to Marangu entrance to the Kilimanjaro National Park and start climbing. The first shelter in Mandara at mt. 2750 is reachable after 4 hours walking, through a vast tropical forest area

Mt. Kilimanjaro consists of three volcanic cones: Shira, Mawenzi, and the highest: Kibo.
The most common route, the "tourist route", starts at the park headquarters (1980 m) near Marangu.
This route first reaches the rim of the caldera of Kibo at Gillman's point (5685 m)
and then it's another couple of long hours walking the rim of the caldera
to the true summit, Uhuru peak, on the western slope at 5895 meters.

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

The route begins at the National Park Marangu Gate at 1800 m. It is a 9 km (about 3-4 hours) walk through the rain forest to the Mandara Hut at 2750 m.


Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Ascend on the path through the open alpine moorland. The second hut, Horombo Hut (3750 m), is 12 km (about 5 hours) from Mandara Hut.


Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After some hearty food and a good night's rest, you climb past the cactus-like ground cover, past the "last water" stream up onto the lunar landscape on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. After a grueling 12 km (5-6 hour) climb from Horombo Hut, you will reach the stone Kibo Hut (4700 m). Those who wish to spend a day for acclimatization may do so here.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and back!

The start for the summit is made just past midnight in order to reach Gillman's Point (5680 m) before dawn. At Gillman's Point we rest to watch the sun rise over the African plains, a truly unforgettable experience. One hour from Gillman's Point is the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak (5895 m). A comparatively easy descent to Horombo Hut closes the day.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Marangu Gate

After a half day of leisurely descent, you will find yourself back at the Marangu Gate park entrance.
