DURAN DURAN IN CHILE
DURAN DURAN - A PERFECT CLOSURE
In a genuine environment of a rock concert, Duran Duran, the English band headed by Simon Le Bon, was very giving to their audience and based their show mostly on classics. However, in an act not shown before at the festival, the group presented what will be their next record in studio.
Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and Warren Cuccurullo, the actual members of Duran Duran closed this edition of Viña del Mar Festival. In a nostalgic festival, Duran Duran performance yesterday was the best closure ever. Headed by a carismatic Simon Le Bon, the only real rock'n'roll figure at this festival's version, the night was memorable; one of the rare chances that we have at this festival.
Not considering the television broadcasting or the retributions, the group stayed on stage for more than an hour, in front of an audience which was leaving the place little by little, leaving only their unconditional fans and creating a genuine rock'n'roll atmosphere.
Much more giving and talkative than during their first visit to the country in 1993 (when they performed an acoustic concert in Santiago which disappointed many of their fans) Duran Duran performed classics of the 80s such as Girls On Film, Hungry Like The Wolf and The Reflex, by far, their best known song in Chile. But not only did the band played classics, Come Undone, Ordinary World (specially dedicated to "the ones who fight for the peace in the world and also in Chile") and Electric Barbarella, were some of the newest hits that Duran Duran included in their show.
They even performed the new song Someone Else Not Me, which will be part of their new album in studio that will be released this year titled Pop Trash.
The blond singer was accompanied by Nick Rhodes, the responsible for that peculiar sound of the band and the guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, who added experimental sounds to some of their hits. Eventhough it's more than a decade since Duran Duran was at the top of the charts we cannot deny that they ended impossing their category at Quinta Vergara where only a few were lucky enough to see one of the best performances of this festival.
A NOSTALGIC CLOSURE WITH DURAN DURAN
The only rock figure invited to this year's Festival was not precisely a group on top of the charts but nonetheless it was left for the closure. Duran Duran showed their history on Quinta Vergara stage.
Maybe their first visit to Chile in a concert in Santiago by 1993 disappointed some of their fans who expected the big hits of the English group, but this time Duran Duran showed themselves more giving and started with their hits of the 80s Girls On Film or Hungry Like The Wolf. However, their repertoire was balanced with more recent stuff such as Ordinary World or Electric Barbarella, both from the 90s.
Headed by a well mantained Simon Le Bon as the vocalist, Duran Duran even allowed themselves to do what no one in this festival or in the other versions of it dared to do: sing a new song, like Someone Else Not Me from the next album Pop Trash. But the majority were classics.
Closing this version of the festival which by definition was devoted to the old hits, was an easy task for Duran Duran.
